I have read every book in this series and a novella or two and I was worried a few books back that it was coming off the tracks into becoming a bit too silly for serious plots. The last couple of books have relieved me of those concerns and the plots have gotten more depth and injected a more serious note into the series.

This story revolves around a romance between Neona and Zoltan (that name always reminds me of the fortune telling game from Tom Hanks movie "Big") and starts with a mystery several hundred years old that Zoltan became a vampire so he could live long enough to solve it. This evolves into a romance that is a bit difficult since she tries to put an arrow through him in their first meeting (her opinion of him improves as the story goes along).

The continuing overarching storyline of Master Han continues to dominate the novel and serves as the impetus for many of the actions in this story.

This is definitely one of the better novels in the series since the very early book and I enjoyed it a LOT but I was a bit dissatisfied with the ending. I hope she does not drag the current overarching storyline out beyond the next book, it grows tiresome IMHO and I was hoping to see a bit more of the angels from the last book they make no appearance in this novel much to my disappointment.

Great reading and I give it 4 Stars mainly for leaving so many threads dangling at the end, this is NOT a cliffhanger ending but there are several things left unresolved but it does have an ending for the romance in this book.

I loved this story and couldn't put it down, but I was so disappointed by the ending and so let down I couldn't believe what I was reading. How could Sparks do this to her readers and how could so many readers just accept it. I am not all all happy what happened to Zolton and not at all happy that she did not even leave me with a cliffhanger. It was as if she actually thought the story was over. I was so excited about this series and about Zolton's story and so miserable that it ended the way it did. I am hoping there is a resolution to come with the next book, but I greatly doubt that at this point any resolution will be satisfying.

I looked forward to this book for months, and the minute it was delivered to my kindle, I began reading.

What I loved about this book, is that it is written well. The characters, and the book as a whole, are very entertaining and well rounded and consistent. After so many books in this series, Kerrelyn Sparks remains strong in her writing, because I laughed (really loud actually) and cried and remained hooked throughout the entire book. I also loved the action-packed scenes, the romance, the suspense, and the pace in which it all took place.

After so many praises, then what are the few bumps I mentioned? Well for one, the plot was a little shaky. To me, Sparks kept you comfortable about the plot, and then she would throw a wrench and I was like "huh?" and I would get a little lost. Secondly, Zoltan's motivations for some things, to put vaguely, were confusing. If you buy this book and read it, I think you will see what I mean. *SPOILER* The motivations I'm talking about have to do with his father. Lastly, the ending. I personally didn't like the ending, because after all of the action and romance, the ending fell a little flat, however, based on the previous books, the ending does make sense.

So, while there were a few aspects that I wasn't enthused about, this book did meet my expectations overall!

I love this series, and will gladly read all installments until the end. That being said, this was not my favorite. I didn’t really connect with the characters and had no solid experience with Zoltan to hold my attention. The highlights of the book were the sexy scenes and the appearance from previous book characters (Howard, Emma, etc.).

Zoltan is a pretty old vampire who has tried his best to be good. He takes care of all those around him, but has always been looking for his father’s killer. Somehow Zoltan has been taking care of Russell’s blood and weapon needs since his disappearance (what?), and finds an arrow that matches one belonging to his father’s murderer. Immediately, Zoltan zooms off to try to track the owner down. This leads him right into a band of ian women with oodles of secrets.

Neona has just lost her sister (in the same battle where Russell got the arrow). She’s hurting and questioning her strange way of life. When Zoltan suddenly shows up, she’s probably more susceptible to his charm than usual and this pair begins their unlikely alliance. He’s determined to win her heart and she’s determined to have his child. This story was filled with revelations (including a new species) and is steadily building to the big showdown with Master Han.

All of the action helped the latter half of the book, but there was a lot of information thrown at us in this one. We learn all about this way of life, Zoltan’s mother’s strange history, Zoltan’s childhood, and the tons of loose ends that are probably lurking around due to Nima’s stubbornness. This book sets the stage for later action and discovery, but took a little time to get into.
