Going from the book cover photo, I thought this book would be better then it was. It took me awhile to read it as it was boring. I don't like to read about weak women like this main character was. She was always thinking about committing suicide until she found another life away from her husband. Even then she could never make up her mind of what she should do with her life.
I love how her words flow and her character development. A wonderful story of a woman finding herself after years living a life that had suppressed her. She goes through iterations of change - we find her sure and then unsure again. The author weaves other love story's in along with the protagonists own love story which is deeper than just finding a true love. Great read.
I wish this author would write more novels about women in their 60's. I can so identify with the main character, Marianne! And, Marianne's story has a HAPPY ending! Just loved ALL the characters, and their lifestyles. This book is delightful and very colorful, and I NEVER wanted to put it down. Hope to hear more about Nina George's future books! xoxo
I enjoy unexpected stories and one that starts w a woman running from life in a foreign country gets my attention. The mixture of fear and desire to be seen is palpable throughout this excellent book. Got to love a story of hope and romance set in a rugged gentle place with a main character who is 60. I'm sorry it ended. Would make an excellent movie.
I loved this book! Everything in this book spoke to me, to my soul! Without pausing. I am going to read it again so that I might savor its richness, devour its poetry, and again be caught up in its rapture. The goddess has spoken. What a well-done novel. Thank you.
This book was recommended as light reading but with a positive message about remaking oneself. It seemed okay at first, but very soon the story became surprisingly trite, predictable and, worst of all, insipid. This is a romance novel; it is hardly literary fiction.
I loved Nina George's first book and this one as well. Yes, as others have mentioned, the plot is a bit convoluted and offers characters galore who are not fleshed out, but I did enjoy it, but not as much as her first book, The Little Paris Bookstore. What bothered me more than anything is that I had just read this book as The Little Breton Bistro not realizing it was the same book. Since this had a 'new release' date I didn't bother to read what it was about first-my bad. So now I have to return it. Be aware!
