At 30 yrs. old, he wants nothing more than to have a wife who'd love him unconditionally and children of his own. A family! An heir! Sir Kellan Marshall is desperate for an heir. His unfaithful wife has accidentally died by her own hand and now he intends to remarry right away. He wants an heir before the year is out! Sir Kellan is good looking in a rough and rugged way with his warm piercing amber eyes and long thick black hair. He's first and foremost an English warrior and Lord of his lands...but he's also tender hearted, kind and considerate. And to Gillian Corbett, he is totally swoon worthy. She's 24 yrs old and alone in England on what was supposed to be her honeymoon. To her utter humiliation, her jerk of an ex-fiance' accused her of being a frigid prude. He called her an "old timer in a babe's body". Ok, so maybe she does dress a bit conservative and have an appreciation for old things...so what?!? Career artist Gillian Corbett is altogether lovely with her long and lush blond hair, exotic blue eyes and sweet disposition. She can be a sassy spitfire if the situation warrants but she's also sincere, honest and innocent. And now she's in England after her break-up with her scumbag ex-fiance needing to recoup, regroup and heal. While alone in the English countryside, she falls 750 yrs back in time and meets Sir Kellan Marshall who mistakes her for his soon to arrive betrothed. Once Gillian understands exactly what has happened to her...she decides to pose as Sir Kellan's never seen before betrothed....to assume a new identity in order to survive. She decides that until the real bride arrives, she's going to enjoy herself while she tries to figure out how to get back home. In the meantime, attractive and attentive Sir Kellan makes her feel beautiful and feminine for the first time in her life. She's waited on and her every need cared for...she feels like the main attraction...a celebrity.
I thought this story, though nothing original, well told and entertaining. It's very "sweet" in an innocent 1970's sort of way, kind'a reminding me of some of Kathleen Woodiwiss' work although Ms. Woodiwiss was more personal in her intimacy between characters. This story is very vanilla with no intimacy ....hardly even any hand holding!..lol. But I loved Sir Kellan's character...his determination to make Gillian happy...to gain her admiration, devotion and love is short of heartbreaking in his endeavors. His efforts are sigh-worthy.
...."she might be bossy, opinionated and difficult; and she did not stay where she was told; but by the saints, she pleased him!"
There was no grand moment when Gillian feels her "like" has turned to "love". No "aaaah-ha" moment. No discovery. One moment she "cares deeply" for Sir Kellan...and then we read she's in love. Her realization was completely uneventful and assumed which was a big let-down. There was very little drama..nothing sinister. No nail biters. And then Gillian is described as having blue eyes...yet later in the story her eyes are green...then they go back to blue. So here I am cruising nicely at 70 mph reading along with a visual of Gillian in my head...every thing humming along...and then I read her eyes are now green? (...engine sputters and stalls.... and I pull over to the side of the road with a "WTH?" moment). It takes a minute to restart my engine, rev up, put 'er in gear and get back on track with confusion now in my head....not fun.
All in all, I loved the lessons of the story...healing from low self esteem...feelings of self-worthlessness and insecurity. Learning to trust again after severe emotional wounds. I loved how accepting Kellan was of Gillian with all her oddities in 13th C. medieval England. I loved how she brought Kellan joy, peace and laughter when he had none. She brought color back into his colorless life. She becomes the soft to his hard- - the sunshine to his dark. She's innocence to his roughness. He becomes lost without her. She becomes his reason to plan a tomorrow. He becomes her saving grace and she, his salvation.

She Owns the Knight A Knight Tale Book 1 eBook Diane Darcy Reviews
OK so fun story and great leading man, but oh the main character was awful. I could not stand her from the beginning and unfortunately right to the end. If she had been 14 it would have fit her better not a grown woman with the death or her whole family in her heart. She was shallow, silly, manipulative and just stupid. It's hard to believe a woman wrote her. The story was fun to read and I did finish it so I will give it the three stars but I don't think I could read another of her books. This was ok clean but lots talk of there wedding night it was over used and got crass. There was lots of kissing but no bedroom scenes.
I love to read regency romance books (on my android) and just recently tried to read them in time travel story lines. And this book by far my fave besides "Time for Love" by Emma Kaye and "Forever His" by Shelly Thacker. I don't really care about the soft porn that comes with most of the Regency Romance novels so most of the time I skip that part, however I wished I see that part on this book since I'm so in love with the h and the H. It's clean and refreshing and funny (esp. the beginning of it). I love the cover, I love the tittle, and of course the inside! Some of the RR books have the cheesiest covers and unbelievable title @@ *rolled eyes* but as I always I search my books by ratings (only handful is v. disappointed), and readers comments and it seems this one right up my alley. I almost don't want to buy this book when I got the sample and read its prologue, hence not my type of Hero but I continued with the rest of the pages and I couldn't put it down and actually I falling in love with H. I love my h too, it's feisty, modern woman, and independent. Well, to sum up this book is PERFECT!!
**And also just wanted to say thank you to all the readers who take their time to write a review of the books they read and pls do tell us if the book is stand alone books or keep you hanging so you need to buy a second book (which i stay away from this kind of books)**
I started out reading this book thinking... It wasn't going to be something I would be interested in. However, I was hooked, plain and simple.
I've never been in to historical novels. I read the briefing on the storyline and thought, what the heck. I will see for myself. That was this morning. I honestly couldn't put the book down. I was so glad I was off work today because I did nothing but read this book.
If you like romance, intrigue, and a bit of mystery...you will enjoy this as much as I did. Give it a chance. Read at least the first couple of chapters before you turn away. You will want to know what happens next!
Funny and romantic! I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The joking between Kellen and and his friends was delightful as well as the teasing between Kellen and Gillian. There were danger, intrigue and interesting side stories. With time travel stories it's always necessary to suspend disbelief for a while but that's OK. I do think that Gillian could have tried to assimilate better, though. And she didn't need to be so extremely feminist and disdainful toward men. But I still loved the book!
Gillian Corbett is in England near the Scottish border on what should have been her honeymoon, but she is not unhappy about her ex not being there with her. Gillian is content to be sketching the ruins of a castle, when she is chased by some ruffians wanting to steal her belongings. As she try's to runaway, she stumbles and opens her eyes to world completely changed. This story is a really interesting look at arranged marriages not for love but from duty. The land Gillian finds herself in is being guarded by Sir Kellen Marshall for his King. Kellen's whose first wife never loved him and ultimately tried to have him poisoned. I wonder sometimes how any of the early historical marriages survived, since they were arranged on duty instead of love matches. The story of Gillian trying to keep her secrets of where she comes from is cute, but I did not think she tried to assimilate into the time period very well.
